It all started when…

The first Church of Christ in Las Cruces began meeting in 1924, started by James and Goldie Armstrong who had moved here from Oklahoma. As this congregation grew it eventually built a church building on 800 North Miranda Street. From the Miranda Street church came two other churches; the Panlener Church of Christ and University Church of Christ. The Las Cruces Church of Christ (LCCC) came from the University Church of Christ. All of these churches still exist today, and relatives of James Armstrong attend LCCC.

Thirteen years ago on the 19th of April, 2009, LCCC held its first service at the Las Cruces Farm and Ranch Museum. The first worship service was filled with joy and excitement as one hundred and seventy eight worshipers filled an auditorium that seated only 150. The following week the congregation met in the Farm and Ranch ball room area, where the congregation continued to grow in number. This congregation is been bound together by our love for God and for one another. Thus our mission statement: being and making disciples of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ centered on loving God, loving one another, and loving our neighbors (1 Corinthians 13:13).

LCCC became a mutual ministry church out of necessity. Men of the congregation and a number of guest speakers have shared the duty of the pulpit ministry.  Spanish translation of the sermons was implemented soon after LCCC started.

Prior to the appointment of elders the men of the congregation met and made decisions for the church with an emphasis on transparency to the congregation. The first elders were installed on April 10th, 2011. We have had four great elders that have either moved away or stepped down since then. Currently LCCC has four great elders; Dave Mitchell, Scott Wallis, David Winterrowd, and Brian Wilson. In keeping with the spirit of transparency, the elders communicate with the congregation on a regular basis and send out a newsletter regarding important matter of the church.

From its start LCCC has been a mission oriented church in which we have reached out to our local community in service as well as globally by sending and supporting missionaries. We also understand the importance of teaching the youth of our community about the love of God. Every summer LCCC puts on an annual Vacation Bible School in which we reach out and invite the kids in our community to come and learn about God in a fun and exciting way.
